Doora ceramics
by artist Doreen Jakob
My work connects clay with storytelling, textiles and plants.
I hand build functional ceramics with various layers and diverse textures: from vintage laces and silks to flowers and leaves. Each texture brings its own meaning and history to the piece.
My clay work is strongly inspired by textiles. They are part of my heritage: every woman in my family knitted, stitched, sewed… Vintage textiles tell stories, they connect us to our past, they ground us and that’s what I want my ceramics to do, too.
As an immigrant, connecting the past with the present and making ceramics that carry histories into the future is very important to me.
